Negotiations Update

The District and PVTA held their second negotiations meeting on January 23, 2024 for 2023-2024 contract reopeners.

The District offered PVTA a new salary schedule for the 2023-2024 school year that includes 5.93% in salary increases, which would be retroactive to July 1, 2023.  The new salary schedule reduces the total steps from 21 to 20, to allow teachers to reach the new maximum salary of $103,670.00 sooner.  This salary adjustment is in addition to the annual step and column raise each teacher receives yearly (currently on average 2.25% - current proposal  is 3%).  The District also makes yearly contributions to teacher retirement (CALSTRS) at approximately 19.1% annually and provides a very competitive health benefits package to all employees.  The District received approximately 8.22% in COLA from the state for 2023-2024 and is using all of that funding to cover the foregoing package provided to its outstanding teachers.

To provide teachers with more preparation time and professional development to promote student performance, the District is also requesting as part of its proposal to increase the work year from 184 to 186 days, and the work day from 6.5 to 7 hours a day, similar to the majority of the other school districts in the county.

The District and PVTA will continue negotiations on March 12, 2024.
